Modelling Enforcement and Compliance in Fisheries: A Survey
Abstract
Monitoring and enforcement considerationshave been largely ignored in the study of fisherymanagement. This paper discusses this issue with aformal model to show the impacts of costly, imperfectenforcement of law on the behaviour of fishing firmsand fisheries management. Theoretical analysiscombines a standard bio-economic model of fisheries(Gordon/Schaefer) with Becker’s theory of Crime andPunishment.
