Abstract

Quality Control is concerned with the problems of detecting poor quality in manufactured product and taking corrective action to eliminate it. Inspection refers to activity of examining the product to determine if it meets specified design standards. Inspections of part geometry are important in ensuring high quality products.  Due to geometry of parts and their end use, various types of measuring devices are used for measuring the shape of products.  Traditional quality inspection, currently used in a majority of manufacturing processes, is based on high-skilled personnel who perform a series of measurements using traditional measuring instruments like gauges, micrometers, etc.  This approach has several disadvantages such as limited accuracy, subjectivity to human errors, increased cost for personnel training, and slows measurement cycle.  For the above reasons, significant effort was made to automated measuring processes.

In this paper, it has been identified that inspection-using resistor is one of the best and sensitive methods for measuring quality characteristic. Here a working model is fabricated.  It verifies whether the value lies between the specified limits.  It compares and indicates whether the process is in control or out of control.
